Other name: Quaker comfrey, cultivated comfrey, boneset, knitbone, consound, and slippery-root.
The leaf roots of the comfrey plant contain chemical compounds known as allantoin and rosmarinic acid. Allantoin facilitates the growth of new skin cells, and rosmarinic acid contributes to pain relief and reduction of inflammation. Extracts derived from the roots and leaves continue to be utilized in the production of ointments, creams, or salves.
