Botanical name: Stevia rebaudiana

Stevia, scientifically known as Stevia rebaudiana, belongs to the chrysanthemum family, a subset of the Asteraceae family (ragweed family). Notably, there is a substantial distinction between the stevia available in grocery stores and the variety cultivated at home. Stevia products commonly found on retail shelves, such as Truvia and Stevia in the Raw, do not incorporate the entire stevia leaf. Instead, they are crafted from a highly refined stevia leaf extract known as rebaudioside A (Reb-A). It’s worth noting that numerous stevia products contain minimal amounts of actual stevia. Reb-A, the key component, is approximately 200 times sweeter than table sugar.
