Male flowers in short racemes; female in many-flowered, up to 7.5 cm long racemes. The ovary has 2 cells, and the styles are long, covered with papillae. The drupes have a thin, loculicidally dehiscing pericarp, are globosely ovoid, approximately 1.3 cm in diameter, and densely tomentose. The seeds are rounded at both ends.</p>

Leaves alternate or sub-opposite, ovate or elliptic-oblong, up to 18 x 9.5 cm, rounded or cordate at base, obtuse or acute at apex, clothed with silky hairs when young, petioles up to 2.5 cm long with a pair of large glands at the top. Flowers in 4.0 – 8 cm long terminal spikes, pale yellow. Calyx companulate, hairy within, lobes 5. Corolla 0. Disc densely villous. There are 10 stamens arranged in two series. The ovary is 1-locular. The fruit is a hanging drupe, obovoid or ellipsoidal, approximately 4 x 2.5 cm in size. It is smooth, shiny, and turns yellowish when ripe. Inside, there is a solitary hard seed.</p>

<li class="blogtext">The wood is characterized by a brownish-grey hue and exceptional hardness. Although the timber holds limited commercial value, it is primarily utilized in construction, as well as for crafting posts and beams. Additionally, it finds occasional use in the making of carts and dugouts. It is suitable for the manufacture of tool handles. The dried fruits (“Myrobalan”, “Chebulic Myrobalan”) constitute one of the most important vegetable tanning materials and have been used in India for a long time. The dried flesh surrounding the seed is rich in tannin. Myrobalan is useful especially in the production of sole-leather. It is also used for book-binding leathers.</li>



<li class="blogtext">Bark diuretic, cardiotonic; fruit astringent, purgative, tonic, carminative, alterative, stomachic, used in asthma, dysentery, paralysis, piles, cold, ophthalmia, sore throat, dental caries, bleeding and ulceration of gums, scalds, burns, diseases of spleen, strengthens brain and enriches blood. Fruit along with those of <em>Phyllanthus emblica </em>L. and <em>Terminalia bellirica</em> (Gaertner) Roxb. are constituents of “Triphala” which is prescribed for stomach disorders and as an astringent.</li>

Leaves sub-opposite or the uppermost alternate, ovate-oblong, elliptic-lanceolate or elliptic-oblong, rarely obovate, up to 20 x 8 cm, truncate &#8211; cordate at base, obtuse, emarginated or acute at apex, softly tomentose when young with a pair of large glands, one on either side of the midrib beneath; petioles up to 1 cm long. Flowers in axillary or terminal paniculate spikes, yellowish-white or dull-yellow, fragrant. Calyx companulate, villous without, lobes 5. Corolla 0. Stamens 10, 2-seriate. <li class="blogtext">It is one of the most universally employed of all the important Indian timbers. Widely used for building, beams, joints, rafters, doors and window frames, boarding, construction of carts, toys, furniture, oil-mills, rice pounders, engine brake blocks, electric casing, in mines as side props in shafts and galleries, railway wagons for floor-boards and doors, railway sleepers, agricultural implements, tool handles, plywood (both general and decorative), electric poles etc.</li>



<li class="blogtext">This timber is well-suited for construction in fire-proof buildings. The upper branches and unsound logs are excellent sources for high-quality firewood and charcoal. The bark is useful as a tan. Leaves are lopped for fodder. In Chota Nagpur the leaves are much used for feeding tasar silkworms. Bark diuretic, styptic, cardiotonic, used in haemorrhage, ulcers, fractures, bronchitis, diarrhoea, fever, boils, pruritus and diseases of head; gum purgative.</li>

Flowers in terminal or lateral corymbose cymes, white, fragrant. Calyx glabrous, lobes 5. Corolla inflated near the top, lobes 5, crispate, white. Stamens 5, inserted near the throat of the corolla-tube; filaments very short; anthers linear-oblong, free. Ovary 2-locular, style elongate, filiform; stigma 2-fid. The follicles are curved and boat-shaped, measuring 2.5 – 4 x 1-1.5 cm, and feature a short recurved beak. They exhibit a bright yellow-orange color when ripe. Each follicle contains approximately 5 seeds, measuring around 8 mm in length and surrounded by a red pulp.</p>
