Gomphandra tetrandra (Wallich) Sleumer (ICACINACEAE)

Description: Large shrubs or small trees up to 5 m tall; branches puberulous, some what zig-zag. Leaves membranous alternate, elliptic-oblong or oblong-lanceolate or obovate, apex acuminate, base acute or rounded, merous 4-6 pairs, joining in marginal loops, up to 9-12.5 x 2.5 cm. The fruit is an oblong or obconic drupe with remnants of a persistent stigma, situated on axillary structures measuring up to 1.5 x 0.5 cm. The seed is solitary and pendulous.

Distribution: India: In evergreen forests. Sri Lanka.
