Nothopegia beddomei Gamble (ANACARDIACEAE)
Description: The trees can grow up to 15 meters in height. The leaves are simple, alternate, lanceolate, or oblanceolate, measuring 9.5-14 x 2.5-5.5 cm. They are caudate-acuminate, puberulous beneath, and thinly coriaceous. There are approximately 20 pairs of main nerves, and the petioles are 0.8-1.0 cm long. Flowers in 2.5 – 5 cm long pubescent paniculate recemes, white. Male flowers ca 2 mm in diam. Calyx 4-lobed, villous. Petals 4. Stamens 4; filaments subulate, villous. Disc 4-lobed, glabrous. Carpels absent. Fruit a drupe, oval, 1-1.3 cm in diam., compressed, depressed at tip, turning purple. Seed solitary.
Flowering & Fruiting: March – July.
Distribution: India: Western Ghats, up to 1650 m. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Sri Lanka.
