olong tea is a traditional Chinese tea.

It’s made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant used to make green tea and black tea. The difference is in how the tea is processed.

All tea leaves contain certain enzymes, which produce a chemical reaction called oxidation. Oxidation is what turns the green tea leaves into a deep black color.

Green tea is not allowed to oxidize much, but black tea is allowed to oxidize until it turns black. Oolong tea is somewhere in between the two, so it is partially oxidized.

Boosts metabolism. Oolong tea contains polyphenols, which are known for helping to block the enzymes that build fat.
Decreases blood pressure. Oolong tea, and the middling levels of oxidization have been known to help lower cholesterol, one of the largest factors in high blood pressure.
Acts as an Antioxidant. The polyphenol properties of Oolong tea is also known to remove free radicals, making it a wonderful antioxidant. A daily dose of Oolong can therefore removes free radicals and slightly decreases the chances of contracting diseases such as cancer, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis and diabetes.
Healthy teeth and bones. The antioxidant properties of Oolong help to protect against tooth decay, prevent osteoporosis and strengthen the bones in the body. Studies have shown that people how regularly drink Oolong or black tea have been shown to lose bone mineral density (BMD) at a slower rate than non-tea drinkers.
Aids healthy skin. The antioxidant properties of Oolong tea combat outbreaks of eczema.
Helps combat diabetes. Research studies have shown that diabetic patients taking both hyperglycemic medication and regularly drinking Oolong tea have lower blood sugar levels than those simply taking hyperglycemic medication.
Helps beat stress. Every tea drinker has probably experienced the calming feeling after having a cup for themselves. But there have also been scientific experiments backing up this feeling. In a recent study Oolong tea was shown to decrease stress levels in mice by nearly 20%. Additionally, the leaves of Oolong tea have an amino acid that is known to help block glutamate receptors, which leads to a decreases stress response.
Improves mental acuity. Caffeine is well known to give a temporary boost to alertness.
Improves digestion. Oolong tea reduces inflammation in the digestive tract, making it highly beneficial to anyone with acid reflux or ulcer issues. Additionally, this tea has been known to combat some of the bad bacteria in the stomach.
