The root of the Sugandha bala plant typically emerges in short, small, and irregular pieces, measuring around 6 cm in height and 7-11 cm in diameter. These roots exhibit crosswise ridges and numerous prominent spherical tubercles, some of which are situated beneath the surface and connected to thick rootlets. The upper surface of the Valeriana wallichii plant features the remnants of its leaves. The corm is sturdy and firm internally, displaying a greenish-red color.
