Sichuan pepper, scientifically known as Zanthoxylum bungeanum, is a bushy tree reaching heights of 5 to 6 meters, producing berries that curiously resemble diminutive citrus fruits. After drying, these berries split into small lobes, exposing the seed within. Only the seed coat is retained. Sichuan pepper imparts a distinctive peppery flavor with a warm and subtly lemony sensation on the finish.
