Tranexamic acid functions as an antifibrinolytic agent, acting to inhibit the breakdown of blood clots and thereby preventing excessive bleeding. Its use is restricted to prescription only and should be administered under the guidance of a medical professional.
Medicinal Uses:
- Personal or family history of coagulopathy
- Venous thromboembolism
- Ischaemic heart disease
- Stroke
- Hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid or any of its constituents
- Fibrinolytic conditions (the breakdown of fibrin that allows for clotting) due to consumption coagulopathy
- Severe renal insufficiency
